If I Had a Zoo...

What a lovely Tuesday! Had a struggle waking up but once I had my ever dependable cup of Milicano I was up and ready to work! I had a 9am meeting with Dr. Stewart and two people from the organization Care for the Family. We are in the works of putting together a "Mum's The Word" event for moms in the area. It'll happen sometime in the late fall. Just meeting and discussing details. This will be very beneficial for us in connecting with the moms at our Adopt-A-Block sites. Afterwards I had a couple hours to get together the last minute things needed for Saturday's Dream Centre event before heading off with Dr Stewart to another meeting. This one was at Stormont (similar to America's Capitol Building) and concerned getting a Dream Centre building.

A rather windy day. . . thought I was literally gonna get blown over a couple times. (things like that often happen to me). The view overlooking the gardens was breathtaking. . .

I was told that the meeting was to be with one government official, but once we stepped into his office two other men came with him! We all sat down and I became extremely nervous! I am far from professional and business like. I can play house and pretend that I'm smart but the truth is I was SO happy Dr Stewart was with me and decided right before the meeting began that I wasn't going to say a word unless I absolutely had to! This worked quite well as I only needed to answer one or two simple questions Dr Stewart asked me. But then after listening to these gentlemen speak my heart for the youth in Belfast burned inside me and as determined as I was before not to say anything I knew the time had come for me to speak up. So I said a quick silent prayer and said; "Um...can I say something?" All eyes turned to me. It was then my dream to open a youth drop-in centre in Belfast was revealed. They seemed to listen and even seemed to sympathize with me, however, no help was really offered. Same for the Dream Centre building. They all felt it a good idea and wished us luck but didn't really extend any physical help in the matter. So unfortunately the meeting didn't go as well as we would've hoped.

Hmmmm guess we are gonna have to go a different route to make this happen. . .

Tonight was amazing! I met up with Daniel and Beth (two of my favorites from Street Reach) and we all went to the cinema! (Jacs had to stay home and work on her message for tomorrow night) We decided on seeing Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson's new film "We Bought A Zoo". I didn't really know much about the movie except that it's based off a true story and it's about a zoo!! (And we all know my passion for zoos!)

The movie was really good - but a bit slow. It ultimately is about a man who is trying to get over the death of his wife and the kids the loss of their mother. It shows the difficulties that they face in doing this from both the view of the father and of the kids (mainly the son). So as long as you don't go into it thinking its a light-hearted children's film and more so a heart-warming family film, I recommend it. (And if you love zoo's that's just icing on the cake!)

RANDOM SIDE NOTE: At one point in the movie a monkey is introduced. "This here is Crystal the Capuchin" . . . I freaked out in the theater and looked at Daniel "I know that monkey!" Haha thank you LA for introducing me to my most favorite celebrity - Crystal the Monkey.

I took the bus home. Turned out to be an interesting trip. Two lads about 16 years got on the bus. (I had noticed them before getting on several buses only to get off before the bus left the stop) Now watching them from the inside and hearing them fumble about their final destination and trying to pass for a "child's" ticket - I knew they were short money. The bus driver who was no fool knew this as well. When the driver told them they needed to get off cause they were short 10p I was like "Oh my word" and gave them the change. They thanked me and we finally took off for home. About ten minutes in the driver stopped at a red light, opened his little driver door and leaned back to look at us passengers. (I always wondered how they got into their cubicle). He then began to shout at the boys that they missed their stop ages ago. The boys shouted back a different destination and the back and forth arguing continued until the light turned green. When the boys finally decided to get off a bit more down the road the driver refused to open the door! Haha those boys were raging! Words were exchanged for the next 60 seconds (quite a few actually and ones I wont repeat lol) as it was a battle for who's the "bigger person". I felt for the boys (mainly cause I love teens) but ultimately for the driver as I'm sure he deals with kids like this all the time! Sober AND drunk ones! Finally he let them out. By the time we got to my stop I was the last one on the bus so he brought me closer to my destination (instead of going passed it to the next stop. . . where I usually have to back track) I thanked him and then gave him some more money to cover the boys expenses. He laughed, thanked me, and drove off. It was only a couple pounds like but whats it to me if it turns his night around.

Have a full day tomorrow in the office. I sure will be glad when Saturday is over!
Night night!
